Air Pollution
Overview
This project is intended for Secondary 3 Pure Chemistry students to research on air pollution and to create a wiki page collaboratively by using information available on the Internet.
Objectives
At the end of this project, you should be able to:
- state some common air pollutants and their sources
- describe the effect of these pollutants on health and the environment
- discuss possible solutions to the problems that arise from some of these pollutants
- appreciate any other environmental issues related to air pollution
Task
Part 1 (Group Work) :
Create a wiki page that should contain at least the following sections:
- Names of Team Members
- An overview of air pollution
- Information about three major pollutants such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, methane, ground-level ozone and unburnt hydrocarbons
For each pollutant,
(a) highlight key sources
(b) discuss some effects on health and the environment
(c) state possible solutions to the problems caused
- Information and issues related to one of the following areas :
(a) global warming
(b) photochemical smog
(c) ozone depletion
(d) air pollutant index used by Singapore and one other country
- A reference section that includes links of all websites you obtained information from:
The references should be cited in the following format : [name of website] (web link)
For example :
national geographic (http://environment.nationalgeographic.com/environment/global-warming/pollution-overview/)
Plagiarism is strongly discouraged.
Your wiki page will be assessed on:
(1) content
(2) organisation
(3) aesthetic
(4) originality
Part 2 (Individual Peer Review & Reflection) :
Read up the wiki pages set up by other groups from your class. After reading, select two wiki pages and write your reflection using the template provided below.

Print a copy of your reflection and submit to your Chemistry teacher.
Teams
You will be working in groups of 3-4. Below are the groupings, as well as links to their group pages.
Useful Links
You can click on these links to start off your project but do not limit your information only from these webpages.
