Meaning / Definition
Appendicitis refers to the appendix (located at the right side of your large intestine) being swollen or inflamed,causing pain.the appendix is an organ with quite little functions. The appendix was used to digest leaves that primates (our ancestors) eat as fibre from food take a longer time to get digested than other food.
Causes and Effects
Usually most patients have their appendix blocked by undigested food or faeces. The appendix becomes filled with mucus once this obstuction occurs.The mucus will start to inflame the appendix and cause pain.

Signs and Symptoms
The common symptoms of appendicitis is :
1) Dull pain near the navel or the upper abdomen
2) Loss of appetite
3) Vomitting after abdominal pain
4) Fever of 37.2 degree Celsius up to 38.9 degree Celsius
Prevention and Treatment
The standard treatment is surgery to remove the appendix. It is also called appendectomy.
There is no way to prevent it. However it is less common for people who eats food that is high in fiber such as fruits and vegetables.

If ignored, the appendix will eventually burst and the fluid will spill out of the appendix, resulting in infections.
