Meaning / Definition

 

 Heartburn is a form of indigestion felt as a burning sensation in the chest.

Causes and Effects

Causes

1) too much food in the stomach (overeating)

2)too much pressure on the stomach ((frequently from obesity, pregnancy, or constipation)

3)Stress and lack of rest can increase acid production and can cause heartburn.

4)Stress and lack of sleep can increase acid production and can cause heartburn.

Effects

If you do experience heartburn you will feel a burning sensation behind your breast bone and at the back of your throat.

Asthma and heartburn also go hand in hand, studies have shown that patients with Asthma experience heartburn more often

If you experience uncontrollable heartburn, complications will arise in the long term

Also if you do experience heartburn frequently, stomach acids that enter your mouth can wreak havoc in your teeth and will also erode your teeth

Prevention and Treatment

In order to prevent heartburn, be sure to not eat a heavy meal right before you go to bed. Instead you should eat your meal 2-3 hours before you go to bed in order to let your stomach digest the food.

However if you do experience heartburn try drinking a cup of Aloe juice. Aloe Juice is known to help sooth heartburn. You may also try to chew gum. Chewing gum helps increase the amount of saliva in your body thus helping heartburn

If you experience heartburn often, you could experience Hiatal Hernia where the tissue in the esophagus is weakened. 

Other illnesses or diseases include Esophagitis, Esophagael cancer and Dysphagia which may be caused l caused by experiencing heartburn frequently
