Overview

In this section, include a brief description of the allocated ecosystem. You should include the following information:

  • Location of the ecosystem

Sahara Desert

  • Description of ecosystem :                                                                                                                                                                                                                The Sahara is the world's hottest desert , the third largest after Antartica and the Arctic . At over 9,400,000 square kilometres (3,600,000 sq mil ) , it covers most of North Africa , making it almost large as China or the United States . The Sahara streches from the Red Sea , including parts of the Mediterranean coasts to , to the outsskirts of the Atlantic Ocean  . To the south , it is delimited by the Sahel , a belt of semi-aris tropical savanna that composes the northern region of central and western Sub-Saharan Africa .

  • Biodiversity of ecosystem (richness of life in ecosystem)

The Sahara Desert  is the largest hot desert in the world and occupies approximately ten percent of the African continent . Although species richness and endemism are           low , some highly adapted species do survive with notable adaptations . In vast portion of Sahara merely rock , sand and sparse vegetation are found . The remnant large         mammal fauna is highly threatened by ongoing over-hunting . An alternative name of Sahara is the Great Desert

Physical Factors

Search the Internet for information on the following physical factors in the allocated ecosystem.

  • Light (availability of sunlight in the ecosystem),

Not many light intensities in the desert with strange colours of sunset , such as orange and reds and pinker shades .

  • Temperature (temperature of the ecosystem),

The Chart Of The Weather In Each Month

The Sahara Desert is one of the hottest regions of the world , with a mean temperature over 30C . Daily may also be extreme : a swing from 37.5 to -0.5C has been observed

  •  Water (water quality in the ecosystem),

Sahara Desert very little rain , but there is a lot of water under the desert . Rain that fell thousands of years ago stays underground in pools called aquifers . There are about 4 billion gallons of water under the Sahara Desert . People drill wells more than 1000 feet deep to get it .

  • Air (quality of air in the ecosystem),

The is global warming is effecting the desert because it is now two times hotter , so by polluting the air the desert will be hotter           and hotter in time being .

Classification of Living Organisms

Classify at least eight of the living organisms found in the allocated ecosystem into the categories below:

  1. Producers
  2. Primary Consumers
  3. Secondary Consumers
  4. Tertiary Consumers
  5. Decomposers

For each of the living organism, find a picture and write a short description on the organism. You may wish to include feeding habits, region in the ecosystem where it is normally found etc.

Food Web

Create a food web using at least eight of the living organisms listed above. You may wish to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create your food web. Save your food web as a picture. Finally copy and paste your picture in this section of your wiki.

Interrelationship in Ecosystem

Give at least one example for each of the following relationships in the ecosystem:

  1. Predator-prey relationship
  2. Parasitism
  3. Mutualism

Useful Links

Plagarism is a strongly discouraged.

Include the links of all websites you obtained information from to complete your ecology wiki.

For example:

  • [WikiPedia ] (www.wikipedia.com)
  • [Name of website] (website address)
