overview

In this section, include a brief description of the allocated ecosystem, you should include the following information

'A Tropical Rainforest can be found in Asia , Australia , Africa , Southern America , Central America and Mexico.'

'A tropical rainforest is an ecosystem type that occurs roughly within the latitudes 28 degrees north or south of the equator. This ecosystem experiences high average temperatures and a significant amount of rainfall

The tropical rainforest is full of tropical birds, mammals, reptiles and insects because of the amount of food and water there.

Physical Factors

Search the Internet for information on the following physical factors in the allocated ecosystem.

  • Light (availability of sunlight in the ecosystem),There are 2% of light in the rainforest

  • Temperature (temperature of the ecosystem),the temperature of a rainforest is 26.9 degees

  • Water (water quality in the ecosystem),the amount of water in a rainforest is 755 litres

  • Air (quality of air in the ecosystem), there is mostly water vapor and oxygen in a tropical rainforest as it gets more than 100 litres of water a day and the amount of plants there.

Classification of living organisims

  1. Tree

Trees make food by the process of photosynthesis.

Photosynthesis occurs if the there is chlorophyll (the green subtance you find on leaves)

If there is no chlorophyll there will be some on the underside of the leaf.

  1. banana tree

Banana trees make food by the process of photosynthesis.

photosynthesis occurs if the there is chlorophyll(the green subtance you find on leaves)

if there is no chlorophyll there will be some on the underside of the leaf.

  1.  squirrel

'squirrels cannot digest cellulose so must rely on foods rich in protein, carbohydrates and fats.

In temperate regions, early spring is the hardest time of the year for squirrels, because buried

nuts begin to sprout and are no longer available for the squirrel to eat, and new food sources

have not available yet. During these times, squirrels rely  heavily on the buds of trees. Squirrels'

diet consist primarily of a wide variety of plants including nuts, seeds, conifer cones, fruits, fungi

and green vegetation. However, some squirrels also consume meat, especially when faced with

hunger squirrels have been known to eat insects, eggs, small birds, young snakes and smaller

rodents. Indeed, some tropical species have shifted almost entirely to a diet of insects.'

monkey

'Monkeys eat a variety of things, depending on the species. Their diets include flowers, fruits,

nuts, leaves , seeds, insects bird's eggs and spiders.'

snake

'All snakes are strictly carnivorous, eating small animals including lizards, other snakes,

mammals, birds, eggs, fish or insects.'

cheetah

'Cheethahs are carnivorous and their favourite meal is usually thomson's gazelles . There are are all sorts

of game  that is available for cheethahs depending  on where they are in their range. Meat is a main stable of their diet and they can gorge themsevles easily they usually go a couple of days without eating unless one is a female and either pregnant or has kits. then the kill rate is one deer per day.'

crocodile

'Crocodiles eat meat or pretty much anything that will get  close to the water to be dragged in.The adult eat snakes, buffalo, cattle, or anything

that gets near the water. Including humans.'

fungi

'Fungi absorb nutrients from living or dead organic matter that they grow on. They absorb simple, easily dissolved nutrients such as sugars, through their cell walls. They give off a special digestive enzymes to break down complex nutrients into simpler forms that they can absorb.'

For each of the living organism, find a picture and write a short description on the organism. You may wish to include feeding habits, region in the ecosystem where it is normally found etc.

Food Web

Create a food web using at least eight of the living organisms listed above. You may wish to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create your food web. Save your food web as a picture. Finally copy and paste your picture in this section of your wiki.

Interrelationship in Ecosystem

Give at least one example for each of the following relationships in the ecosystem:

  1. Predator-prey relationship

Wild cats and deers, carnivorous birds and small rodent.

  1. Parasitism

'Parasitism is a form of symblosis in which one of the organism involved benefits while the other is harmed.

An example would be ticks and monkeys.Monkeys carry ticks which feed on their blood.'

  1. Mutualism

'In mutualism both organisms benefit from interaction. Example sloth hairs are grooved. Which allows algae

to easily take hold and grow on sloth's fur. This camoflages the sloth and allows algae to get closer to the

sunlight.'

Useful Links

Plagarism is a strongly discouraged.

Include the links of all websites you obtained information from to complete your ecology wiki.

For example:

Wild World @ nationalgeographic.com ( http://www.nationalgeographic.com/wildworld/terrestrial.html )
