ORGANIC ACID

 

An organic acid is an organic compound with acidic properties.

 

1) Sulfonic acid (RS(=O)2–OH)

Sulfonic acid is produced by the process of sulfonation. Usually the sulfonating agent is sulfur trioxide

Because of their high acidity, sulfonic acids are often soluble in water or exhibit detergent-like properties.

 

USES

Detergents

-Use for the production of detergents like soaps.

 

Dyes

-Use in aqueous dye baths

-Able to wash easily in silk and wool by enabling the dye to bind more tightly to the fabric.

 

Drugs

-Important in antibiotics

 

 

2) Oxalic acid (H2C2O4)

Oxalic acid is an organic compound with the formula H2C2O4. It is a colorless crystalline solid that dissolves in water to give colorless solutions. It is classified as a dicarboxylic acid.

H2C2O4 + 2H2O ↔ C2O4^2- + 2H3O^+

 

USES

-used in the restoration of old wood

-used for photography

-used for cleaning dirty leather

-Vaporized oxalic acid, is used by some beekeepers as a miticide against the parasitic varroa mite.

Acetic acid is an organic compound with the chemical formula CH3CO2H (also written as CH3COOH). It is a colourless liquid that when undiluted is also called glacial acetic acid. Acetic acid is the main component of vinegar (apart from water), and has a distinctive sour taste and pungent smell.
