Meaning / Definition

A small sac-shaped organ beneath the liver , in which bile ( a thick, greenish-yellow, bitter fluid made by the liver ) It is stored in secretion ( a process by which substances are produced and discharged by the cell or organ for a particular function in the organism ) by the liver and before being realeased into the intestine (gall bladder)
A small , hard crystalline mass forms abnormally in the gallbladder or bile ducts from bile pigments , cholesterol and calcium salts . Gallstones can cause serve pain and blockage of the bile duct (gallstones)

Causes

Gallstones occur when there's an imbalance in the bile transportation process. Cholesterol stones can form when bile contains too much cholesterol, too much bilirubin or not enough bile salts, according to the National Intitute of Diabetes and Disgestive and Kidney Disease .

Effects

Start suddenly in the center of the upper belly (epigastric area) and spread to the right upper back or shoulder blade area. It is usually hard to get comfortable. Moving around does not make the pain go away.
Prevent you from taking normal or deep breaths.
Last 15 minutes to 24 hours. Continuous pain for 1 to 5 hours is common.
Begin at night and be severe enough to wake you.
Occur after meals.
