Acids and Bases and Salts

Overview

This project is intended for Secondary 3 Pure Chemistry students to research on either three organic acids/ bases or three salts found in daily life by using information available on the Internet or books to create a wiki page. Your wiki page should contain at least the following:

  • basic information about each chemical such as its chemical name and formula, and its structural formula and pH (where applicable)
  • ions they contain or produce in water
  • their uses or functions (e.g. why is an alkali commonly added to toothpaste?)
  • any other interesting facts about the chemicals

Do not  research on common acids or bases already found in the school laboratory such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and nitric acid, and sodium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide and aqueous ammonia.

Objectives

At the end of this project, you shoul be able to:

  • Identify some acids, bases and salts found in daily life and describe their properties
  • Describe the uses and importance of acids, bases or salt in daily life
  • Link the knowledge learnt in the topic of acids bases and salts to daily life

Teams

You will be working in groups of 4. Below are the groupings, as well as links to their group pages.
