What is Osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis is a bone disease which characterized by a decrease of bone strength or low bone mass. As a result, there is an imbalance between new bone formatting and old bone desorption. New bone formatting which unable us to catch up any boneless thus as more bones are loss as it will eventually become more weaken or more fracture especially on the hip, spine and wrist.

Cause of the disease
Osteoporosis occurs when there is an imbalanced between the newborn formation and a old bone desorption. The bone will be fail to form a new bone as the two essential minerals for normal bone formatting which are the calcium and the phosphate. The body uses the mineral to produce bone, other than the calcium which is essential for proper function of the heart, brain and other organ to keep it functioning. The body absorb calcium which is stored in the bones to maintain blood calcium level. If the body does not absorb enough calcium, bone production and the fragile bones can be easily break.
Effort of the patient lives with the disease
- Wrist Fracture ( It is likely to be less severe since only effect the way the arm moves and not the entire body. Once the fracture has occurred after a minor fall, the patient is at a higher risk.)
- Hip fracture ( It usually required a surgery and if the hip fracture is serious as it may result the loss of mobility and independent living in a long term)
- Spinal fractured ( It can result in serious consequences such as deformity, height loss, back pain and mobility loss)
Signs and Symptoms
Osteoporosis means "porous bones"(Greeks). If you have osteoporosis, the bone don't look different but they lose substance as well as calcium and other minerals. As a result, the bone have less strength and more likely to be fracture ,particularity if you fall. The most common fracture of osteoporosis resulting from fall are in the wrist and hip which is most likely to have compression fracture in the vertebrae the bone in the spine. The compression fracture is the result of the weakened bone cracking from the normal pressure of being upright. This often result in the curvature of the spine at the shoulders in older people which sometime called a "widow's hump". The appearance of widow hump or a fracture wrist or hip from a fall which is the first actual symptoms of osteoporosis.
Prevention and Treatment
Osteoporosis can be prevented, the thing that u should stop is
- Stop Smoking
- Balanced diet rich in calcium
- Regular weight-bearing exercise
- Decrease alcohol intake and avoid bone toxic drugs
There is no treatment for those patient who have osteoporosis as the step is it can be prevented , slow or stop its progress. In some cases, it can be able to improve bone density and reverse the disorder to some degree by getting enough calcium and vitamin D as well as essential to bone health. There are also medications available to reduce the risk of the broken bones. The medicine can make the bone loss slow or stop , rebuild the bone

Link to Other Illnesses or Diseases
Osteopenia which refer to bone density which is lower than normal peek density but it is not enough to be classified as Osteoporosis. Bone density which is a measurement of how the bone is dense and strong. If the bone density is low compared to normal peek density which will cause to have osteopenia. Having osteopenia mean there is a greater risk which the time passes as it may develop bone density that is very low bone compared to normal bone which known as osteoporosis.
