Meaning and Definition

In this section, include a brief description of the disorder or disease. You may include picture(s) or video(s) to illustrate your points.

Anaemia is a decrease in a number of red blood cells or less than normal quantity of hemoglobin in the blood.

Because hemoglobin found inside red blood cells which normally carries oxygen from the lungs to the capillaries, anaemia leads to the lack of oxygen in organs. Since Human cells depend on oxygen to stay alive ,varying degrees of anaemia can have a wide range of clinic consequences. And also,if the brain does not get much oxygen, your body will feel fatigue.

Causes and Effects

In this section, while using a little medical jargon as possible,

1) include a description of the condition(s)  or situation(s) causing the disorder or disease;

2) include a description of the effect(s), outcome(s) or impact(s) on the patients' lives as a result of having the disorder or disease.

You may include picture(s) or video(s) to illustrate your points.

  • Causes of Anaemia

There are more than 400 types of anaemia.Which are divided into 3 groups.

The three groups are:

  • Anaemia caused by blood
  • Anaemia caused by decreased or faulty red blood cell production
  • Anaemia caused by destruction of red blood cells

Firstly , we talk about blood loss.Red blood cells can lost thought bleeding and which can occur slowly over a long period of time, and also sometimes often go undetected .This kind of chronic bleeding commonly result from these following:

  • Gastrointestinal condition such as ulcers, hemorrhoids , gastritis and cancer

  •  Use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirinor ibuprofen, which can cause ulcers and gastritis

  •  Menstruation and childbirth in women, especially if menstrual bleeding is excessive and if there are multiple pregnancies

                                              Meaning

ulcers - There is no clear evidence to suggest that the stress of modern life or a steady diet of fast food causes ulcers in the stomach and small intestine, but they are nonetheless common in our society: About one out of every 10 Americans will suffer from the burning, gnawing abdominal pain of a peptic (or gastric) ulcer at some point in life.

hemorrhoids - Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the anal canal. This common problem can be painful, but it is usually not serious.Veins can swell inside the anal canal to form internal hemorrhoids. Or they can swell near the opening of the anus to form external hemorrhoids. You can have both types at the same time. The symptoms and treatment depend on which type you have.

gastritis- Gastritis can be caused by irritation due to excessive alcohol use, stress, chronic vomiting, or the use of certain medications such as aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs.

Secondly, Decreased or Faulty Red Blood Cell Production and destruction of red blood cell. With this type of anaemia, the body may produce too few blood cells or the blood cells may not function correctly.Red blood cells may be faulty or decreased due to abnormal red blood cells or a lack of minerals and vitamins needed for red blood cells to work properly.

Conditions associated with these causes of anaemia include the following

  • sickle cell anaemia
  • vitamin deficiency
  • Bone marrow and stem cell problem
  • Iron-deficiency anaemia
  • Other health condition

Sickle cell anaemia is an inherited disorder that affects African-Americans. Red blood cells become crescent shaped. It is because of a genetic defect. They break down rapidly, so oxygen does not get to the body's organs, causing anaemia. The crescent shaped red blood cells also get stuck in tiny blood vessels, and this causing a lot of pain.

here is the video of sickle cell

           Another thing that causes anaemia

Iron deficiency anaemia occurs when there are lacking of the mineral iron in the body. Bone marrow in the center of the bone needs iron to make hemoglobin, the part of the red blood cell that transports oxygen to the body's organs. Without adequate iron, the body cannot produce enough hemoglobin for red blood cells. And these causes Anaemia.

This type of anaemia can be caused by

  • An iron-poor diet, especially in infants, children, teens, vegans, and vegetarians

  • The metabolic demands of pregnancy and breastfeeding that deplete a woman's iron stores

  • An iron-poor diet, especially in infants, children, teens, vegans, and vegetarians

  • Menstruation

  • Endurance training

  • Frequent blood donation

  • Digestive conditions such as Crohn's disease or surgical removal of part of the stomach or small intestine

  • Certain drugs, foods, and caffeinated drinks

                                             Effects of anaemia

In the United State alone ,Anaemia is the most common disorder of blood . And also anaemia is the most common blood condition in U.S .It affects about 3.5 millions of Americans.

It occurs in all age, racial and also ethnic group. Both women and men can have anaemia. However, women of childbearing age are at high risk for the condition because of blood loss from menstruation .Anaemia can develop during pregnancy due to low levels of iron and folic acid (folate) and changes in the blood. During the first 6 months of pregnancy, the fluid portion of a woman's blood (the plasma) increases faster than the number of red blood cells. This dilutes the blood and can lead to anaemia.

All these causes may lead to high hospital payment until they get cure . or if they do not go for the treatment well ,they might die.

Signs and Symptoms

In this section, while using a little medical jargon as possible, include a description of the signs and symptoms exhibited by people having the disorder or disease. You may include picture(s) or video(s) to illustrate your points.

In many people, the symptoms of anaemia goes undetected, and symptoms can be minor or vague. The signs and symptoms can be related to the underlying cause or the anaemia itself.

Most commonly, people with cancer which is anaemia reported feelings of weakness,or fatigue ,general malaise ,and sometimes poor of concentration .They may also reported shortness of breath which also known as dyspnea on exertion.

Here are the symptoms of anaemia

group name signs
eyes  yellowing
skin  paleness  coldness  yellowing
Respiratory   shortness of breath
Muscular   Weakness
Intestinal  changed stool color
Central  fatigue  dizziness  fainting
Blood vessels Low blood pressure
Heart palpitation rapid heart rate chest pain angina heart attack
spleen enlargement
Red=In severe anaemia

Some people who have Anaemia have arrhythmias.Arrhythmias are problems with the rate of the heartbeat. Over time , arrhythmias can damage your heart and possibly lead to heart failure.Anaemia also can damage other organs in your body.It is because your blood can't get enough oxygen to them.Anaemia can weaken people who have cancer or HIV/AIDS.HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency virus and AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. This can make their treatments not work as well.Anaemia also can cause many other health problems.People who have kidney disease and anaemia are more likely to have heart problems. with some types of anaemia, too little fluid intake or too much loss of fluid in the blood and body can occur. severe loss of fluid can be life threatening .

Prevention and Treatment

In this section, while using a little medical jargon as possible,

1) include a description of the steps to prevent getting the disorder or disease (if it cannot be prevented, do explain why);

2) include a description of the treatment of the disorder or disease (if it cannot be treated, do explain why) or the steps to lessen its signs or symptoms.

You may include picture(s) or video(s) to illustrate your points.

People might be able to prevent some types of anaemia ,especially those caused by lack of iron or vitamins.Dietary changes or supplement can prevent these types of anaemia from occurring again. To prevent anaemia from getting worse ,tell your doctor about all your signs and symptoms. Talk with your doctor about the test you may need and follow your treatment plan.

Your body needs iron to make hemoglobin.Your body can easily absorb iron from meats, vegetables or other foods for example salt can foods. To treat your anaemia ,your doctor may suggest eating more meat especially meat such as beef or liver ,as well as chicken, fish, shellfish, turkey.

Vitamin C helps the body to absorb iron . Good sources of vitamin C are vegetables and fruits, especially citrus fruits.citrus fruits include oranges, grapefruits, and similar fruit .Fresh and frozen fruits, vegetables ,and juices usually have more vitamin C.

If you have serious or life threatening bleeding that is causing anaemia, you may nee a surgery. For example ,you may need a surgery to control ongoing bleeding due to a stomach ulcer or colon cancer. If your body is destroying red blood cells at a high rate ,you need to have your spleen removed .The spleen is a organ that removes worn out red blood cells from the body .An enlarged or diseased spleen may remove more red blood cells than normal, causing anaemia.

Link to Other Illnesses or Diseases

In this section, while using a little medical jargon as possible, include a description of the illness(es) or disease(s) that may occur as a result of having this disorder or disease.

You may include picture(s) or video(s) to illustrate your points.

Good job in putting up the information.

Some suggestions:
1. Please edit the sections so that a consistent font type and size is used.
2. Do separate the methods of prevention and treatment.
3. Do explain the part on "link to other diseases".
4. Section on "Causes" very messy with some irrelevant information.
