Page history last edited by 1T1_2012 Group 9 12 years, 1 month ago

Team members

Names / Roles:

  • Chuan Ren  (Leader)
  • Jun Long    (Researcher)
  • Jing De       (Researcher)
  • Nicholas     (Researcher)

Overview

1) In this section, write sentences to describe the Seashore.

2) Use the information from the website and books you have read from.

3) You should include the following :

  • Location of the ecosystem

        The location is Seashore.

  • Description of ecosystem                                                                                                                                                                                                                       It is very rocky, with few flora and fauna within the system. Few animals include the Arrow Crab, the Atlantic Horseshoe Crab, Mole Crab, Purple Sea Urchin, Rock Crab and Coral Shrimp.

  • Biodiversity of ecosystem (richness of life/types of plants and animals in ecosystem - can use pictures):

  • A typical seashore is made up of various rocky ledges formed together, sometimes trapping quantities of seawater. Pebbles, stones and sands made up the bulk of the seashore. It can be observed that the plants and animals in the area have evolved over time to adapt to such a hostile environment.

Physical Factors

Search the Internet for information on the following physical factors in the Seashore ecosystem.

  • Light : The Light is Sunlight.
  • Temperature : The temperature is usually between 25 celsius - 36 celsius depending on the weather.
  • Water : The water around the seashore is typically seawater.
  • Air : Air conditions depend severely on various factors, such as traffic conditions, degree of urbanisation and the general air climate of neighbouring countries or cities.

Classification of Living Organisms

Classify at least eight of the living organisms found in the Seashore ecosystem into the categories below:

  1. Producer
  2. Primary Consumer
  3. Secondary Consumer
  4. Tertiary Consumer
  5. Quaternary Consumer

         (Codium fragile)

1. Seaweed (Primary Producer)

Seaweed can sometimes be found along seashores or rocky tide pools. These organisms are able to
adapt to the rapidly changing temperature (between morning and night) and sometimes the occasional
drying up of water supply.
They undergo a process known as photosynthesis in order to convert sunlight and carbon dioxide into
a form of carbohydrate while at the same time producing oxygen as a by-product.

2. Common Limpet (Primary Consumer)

Limpets can be found on rocks , sand and more , depending on what Limpet it is,
they feed on Seaweed . If a predator of its approach , It will remain there
to camouflage and its shell will protect it from any dangers.

3. Bird (Secondary Consumer)

Bird can usually be found everywhere as they have the ability to fly
It feed up to Limpet andand more.It survive by flying around,
hunting food for itself and its young.Whenever a predator approach it,
it will fly off to escape from being injured or its death.

4. Eagles (Tertiary Consumer)

Eagles feeds on bird eggs and even more, they can be everywhere as they have the ability to fly around,it escape death or any injuries by flying.

5. Ants (Decomposers)

Ants feed on dead animals. If a predator approaches, the ants will escape by entering the hole they created to their underground basement
to prevent any dangers on them.

For each of the living organism, find a picture and write a short description on the organism.

Write down where the plant / animal can be found, what the animal feeds on and how it survives / escapes from being eaten or killed.

Food Web

Create a food web using at least eight of the living organisms listed above. You may wish to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create your food web. Save your food web as a picture. Finally copy and paste your picture in this section of your wiki.

Interrelationship in Ecosystem

Give at least one example for each of the following relationships in the ecosystem:

  • The predator is an organism that eat another organism. The prey
is the organism of what the predator eats.
  • Parasitism is a type of non mutual relationship between organisms of different species where one organism, the parasite, benefits at the expense of the other, the host.
